Blend is a unique tool in the list of tools in Adobe Illustrator. It helps in creating cool effects using lines and figures. Lets find out how you can use this tool on your illustrations. There are two Blend options available in Illustrator: First is available in the menu bar – Object > Blend and second one is situated in the tool bar box at the left side of the interface. Here we are learning the second Blend tool in this tutorial. Below you can find some simple basic steps to get an Idea for using this Blend tool.
Let take a simple example of a rectangle. Create two rectangles of any size ( you can create of same sizes) Apply different stroke color to both of them. You can see in the screenshot for better understanding.
Find the Blend Tool in the Tool Bar box at the right side. Select both the rectangles and double click the Blend tool. You can see a popup window which includes Blend Spacing Options like:
1. Smooth Color
2. Specified Steps
3. Specified Distance
In this tutorial we will learn to use the Specified Steps Option. Select The Specified Steps Option from drop down. Enter the desired number for number of steps to occur. You can add as many numbers in the box. For example we entered number 10 in the box given and hit OK button.
You will find the cursor is changed to a new pointer. Just select any one end point of both rectangles. You will see the Blend effect between both rectangles. We entered number 10 in the specified steps box, so we can see that the number of bleeding rectangles are 10 in numbers.
For more dense results, just enter larger number of specified steps in the popup window of the Blending options. Hope you liked this tutorial and got the Idea of using Blend Specified Option. For more tutorials on Basics of Illustrator stay tuned with us. Have a great day!
